Open-Mould or Custom Buckles: Which One Do You Need?
The buckle is the part of a belt customers touch first. Here is how to choose between catalogue and custom hardware.

Hardware is where a belt gets its identity, and where costs can climb quickly.
Open-mould buckles
These use existing tooling. You can usually choose the finish and add your logo. They are quicker and carry no tooling cost, but other brands may use the same shape.
Custom-mould buckles
A new tool is made for your design. It costs more and takes longer up front, but the shape is yours alone, subject to what you agree with the supplier.
Finish and material
Common finishes include nickel, gunmetal, antique brass and matte tones. The base metal and plating affect how well the buckle resists wear and tarnish.
A simple rule
Start with open-mould and a distinctive finish. Move to a custom mould once a style proves it will sell in volume.
